I like that! If someone had said to me "photograph some salt" I would have focused on just the pile, not the falling salt or the shaker. I like your idea better :)
Nancy...I started with photographing the pile of salt and then the shaker laying down next to it to finally seeing how it would look as you see in the final shot. The most work went into figuring out how to light it so the shadow of my hand wasn't showing as it did with any above lighting. Settled with lighting from the side and reflecting it back a little on the dark side just enough to give it some highlights.
