The photo and the text matches well together. Cate to explain how you created this shot? Did you strobe a flash as well as moved the subject or zoomed a lens?
The lighting was from a single overhead work light. To create the superimposed effect I used a 4 second exposure. Using my 70-300mm lens I focused in on the head at 300mm. Pressed the shutter release and held the shot to a count of 2 and turned the zoom ring as fast as I could out to 70mm.
Because I moved the zoom ring fast enough it didn't create the zoom effect I've used quite a bit lately. You can see faint zoom trails but you have to look for them.
