Day 320 of 365

Day 320 of 365, originally uploaded by Rob Weiher.

This may be my last time using my crappy jury rigged lighting setup I've been using since the start of this project. I finally bought a flash and accessories like an umbrella and stand and a remote flash trigger. It isn't a top of the line expensive setup but it's a step up from $8 shop lights from Home Depot. Should have the new toys this week....time to learn something new.

Care to share your $8 setup with a fellow Marina Photographer? I think the photos come out great with that black background and premeditated lighting. Your blog has really inspired me and it looks like you have a lot of fun in your experiements.

Happy to share...I've included links to my posts that have photos of my setups. I've adjusted my needs as I went along. First starting with a homemade lightbox built out of a cardboard box, to one made out of large pieces of white foam core (seen here http://unqualifiedtoblog.blogspot.com/2009/03/day-83-of-365.html) to a PVC pipe setup hanging from my garage ceiling (http://unqualifiedtoblog.blogspot.com/2009/07/day-191-of-365.html) that I used until getting my strobist kit.

I got the work lights, the cheap aluminum ones with a clamp and the PVC pipe at Home Depot. They have a rack full of pre-cut pieces of pipe about 2 feet long and I just bought enough along with joints and connectors to make a 4 square so I could hang my lights from.

Thanks for the explanation Rob, I'm going to check out Home Depot. And probably just improvise the rest, like you.
You have really interesting images and dedication, very impressive.
